Leicester Square, London, England

Leicester Square is a pedestrianised square in the City of Westminster, London, in the city's West End. Named after Robert Sidney, the 2nd Earl of Leicester, who bought the land in 1630, it is now home of a park, many cinemas and much more.

The garden in the centre of the square contains many plants and statues, including one of William Shakespeare surrounded by dolphins in the centre (shown above). There are also statues of Sir Isaac Newton, Sir Joshua Reynolds, John Hunter, William Hogarth and Charlie Chaplin.

The Square also boasts many cinemas and has hosted premières for films like Harry Potter, James Bond and Shrek. It also co-hosts the London Film Festival every year and is surrounded by floor mounted plaques with star's names on and their hand prints. It also hosts events for celebrations such as Chinese New Year.
